CATHEDRAL BASILICA OF OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION
Located in the main square of Cusco, the Cathedral is a colonial monument of great artistic value. It was built on the foundations of Inca palace Wiracocha. Inside the Cathedral are the choir and altar both carved out of wood, beautiful paintings of the Art School of Cusco and works in high relief of silver, and gold leafing.
KORICANCHA AND THE CONVENT OF SANTO DOMINGO The famous temple of the Sun is the most important religious construction of the Incas. Inside the temple, you can find smaller temples dedicated to the MOON, SUN, and STARS. Outside you can see beautiful fountains in the gardens of the monumental temple. Here, you will observe the combination of the extraordinary Inca architecture and Spanish colonial architecture.
SACSAYHUAMAN It is located 2 km from the city of Cusco and is at an altitude of 3,700 m.a.s.l. SACSAYHUAMAN is characterized by its impressive construction of huge blocks of stones joined to perfection that not even a very thin sheet is able to enter through the joints. Visitors to this area are surprised and wonder how the Incas could have the ability to make such a great architectural monument. Here you will see stones up to 9 mts high. From here you can also enjoy the spectacular view of the city of Cusco along with its beautiful landscapes of surrounding mountains.
Q’ENQO Located 1 km from SACSAYHUAMAN, this complex was an Inca ceremonial center. The most predominant feature of this complex is the open space called the amphitheater, which probably served to carry out various ceremonies to honor some idols and mummies.
PUCA PUCARA This complex is known as the “RED FORTRESS” most likely due to the red limestone with which it was built. This fortress was supposedly built to protect Tambomachay, which was an important palace. Puca pucara is a sample of military architecture where you can see fountains, aqueducts, terraces, staircases and several Inca sites.
TAMBOMACHAY Tambomachay means “PLACE OF REST.” Due to the shape of its construction and the presence of waterfalls, it is considered as the water cult sector.
